The Truth

“What is reality?” As AI advances to today’s center stage, and we face a constant barrage of biased parties clambering to dictate each narrative, society is left to its own devices in determining an answer for this existential question.

In this Lent season, believers are reminded of the wonder of Easter. We know a guy… who said, “I am the way, the truth, and the life.”

Knowledge can take on the deceptive disguise of truth, but without looking to Jesus directly as the Truth, it is an idol in our hearts. God’s truth offers an embrace of deeper reality. It brings harmony in answering to the mind and heart, it accounts for the spiritual and physical, it answers for what can be tested and what must only be believed, and it relates us properly to our Creator and Lord.

In his book, The Abolition of Man, C.S. Lewis urges that the role of a teacher is not to tear down constructs but to “irrigate deserts”. Truth yields faith and nurtures the seeking heart. Knowledge alone yields cynicism and sours the needy heart. Christ is our Teacher.

Is not the truth a peaceful thing when Christ is also the way? The truth reveals a condition of heart that is hopeless without Him. It can bring uncomfortable light to things that have lain too long in darkness. Yet, with Him, it is a joyous, life-giving announcement of salvation and fulfilling existence in intimacy with an infinitely loving Father! Such truth is freedom!

John 8:31-32: “If you abide in My word, you are truly My disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

This month, may you come to know God’s word better. May God bless the truth He plants in you. As the Holy Spirit faithfully effects the Lord’s healing and redemptive work in you, may that truth reach the convictions of your heart in new depths of intimacy with the Father.
