Worth It!: Alumni Stories
Before joining Stoa, parents and students sometimes wonder if the time and effort they invest to prepare, practice, perfect, and present speeches and debates for competition will pay off. Will it be worth it? Ultimately, they realize it is through this process that students gain valuable communication skills that will benefit them throughout their lives. Stoa competitors learn to speak and listen well, to respond respectfully to others, and to work diligently and with integrity. The result is that students come away with a foundation of values, knowledge, and skills that provide a distinct advantage for their future endeavors. The same Stoa competitors who start off as shy or hesitant become confident, articulate, and winsome orators who can speak boldly and share the message of the Gospel with others. Furthermore, while Christian homeschoolers have a plethora of options for extra-curricular activities, Stoa provides abundant, tangible benefits not found in any other activity. As soon as we recognize the positive impacts of competing in Stoa, we know without question the journey is worth it!Â
We recently caught up with alumni Grayson Harris who shared with us why his experience in Stoa was worth it! Be encouraged by Grayson’s words here.Â
