Welcome to the Stoa Logo Contest!
Stoa is excited to invite our members to participate in the creation of our new logo, which will be used on our communications moving forward, including the website and printed materials! Stoa clubs and tournaments will be able to utilize the logo for local purposes as well. Once the contest deadline is reached, the Stoa Board will review all the entries received and select the field of finalists. A panel of judges appointed from across the nation will choose the winning design.
Before you begin to use the creative skills that God has blessed you with, we would like to outline some basic guidelines and rules.
What We Are Looking For
We are looking for a design that captures the meaning of Stoa! The logo should incorporate at least some key elements of what Stoa represents, such as Christ, Speech and Debate, and Homeschooling. It should also feature some type of “stoa” (see here), as well as the name “Stoa” with only the first letter capitalized. Flexibility is a key requirement, including the need to resize easily and to look good in black and white as well as color (if you choose to incorporate color into your design). The final version of the logo will need to be suitable for high quality printing. No need to worry about that in your submission though; we will make the necessary arrangements to convert the winning design to high quality!
Competition Rules
Like all competitive forensics events we need to set some rules to play by, so here they are:
Definitions
- “Entry” means a logo design created by the Entrant for this Contest. “Entrant” means the individual that offers the Entry under the terms of this Contest.
Eligibility
- Participation in this contest is limited to members of families registered with Stoa for the 2011-2012 season. All ages of Stoa members are invited to participate.
- The Contest is not open to companies, educational institutions, organizations, etc., or to groups associated with such institutions.
How to Enter
- Initial entries must be submitted by email to logocontest@Stoausa.org. The entries must be submitted in a graphical file format such as eps, jpeg, bmp etc.
- The email must include the name, age, and email address of the Entrant. No more than 3 Entries may be submitted by any one Entrant.
- Entries must conform to the Submission Guidelines set out below. Entries which fail to do so will be rejected.
- The deadline for Entries is midnight (one minute after 2359) on February 29th, 2012, Pacific Daylight Time.
- We will attempt to acknowledge all entries within one week of receipt; however, we cannot be responsible for entries or responses lost in e-mail.
- There is no fee to enter the Contest.
Submission Requirements
- Because we may want to register the logo as a Service Mark, Entrants should take care to ensure that their Entries are not in any way similar to existing logos or other copyrighted images. A logo that cannot be registered as a Service Mark, no matter how well crafted, cannot win the Contest. All submitted work must be original and not based on any pre-existing design.
- For the initial submission please keep the file size smaller than 5 MB. We are looking at concept currently. We must also be able to divide the Logo into different elements (for example, separate graphics from text but still make it recognizable as Stoa).
Prizes
- The winning designer will receive: A unique glass trophy with the winning design engraved on it.
- The right to identify him/herself as the logo designer for transcripts, art portfolios etc.
- One registration to NITOC paid in full, for the designer or an immediate family member who has been invited to compete at NITOC 2012.
Judging and Selection of Winner
- The winning design will be selected by judges appointed for the purpose and by the Stoa Board. Their decision will be final. No further correspondence shall be entered into.
- The Stoa Board reserves the right not to select a winner if, in its sole discretion, no suitable entries are received.
- The Stoa Board reserves the right to disqualify any Entrant or Entry at its sole discretion. No correspondence shall be entered into.
- The winner will be required to assign all ownership of the logo to Stoa.
Intellectual Property
- All Entries will become the sole property of Stoa and may be displayed publicly on Stoa web sites.
- Entrant/Entrant’s legal guardian agrees to transfer all rights and title to the Entry to Stoa, in accordance with the Official Rules of this Contest.
Acceptance
- Participation constitutes the Entrant’s full and unconditional agreement to and acceptance of these Official Rules. By participating in the Contest, the Entrant/Entrant’s legal guardian is representing and warranting that he/she has read and understood, and agrees to be bound by, these rules. Including the guides and rules referred to herein, these Official Rules constitute the entire agreement between the Entrant and Stoa in relation to the Contest. They govern the Entrant’s participation and supersede any prior or other agreements between the Entrant/ Entrant’s legal guardian and Stoa relating to the Contest.
